Virat Kohli Hails India Women’s Record-Breaking Win Over Australia in World Cup Semi-Final: Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli has showered praise on the Indian women’s team after their historic win over Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final. He also gave a special mention to Jemimah Rodrigues for her brilliant match-winning knock.
The Indian women scripted an unforgettable victory against the mighty Aussies to book their spot in the World Cup final against South Africa. This was only the second time Australia has lost a World Cup semi-final – and on both occasions, it was India who handed them the defeat.
Virat Kohli Applauds India Women and Jemimah Rodrigues
Jemimah Rodrigues, who was promoted up the order after replacing Harleen Deol in the playing XI, made the most of her opportunity. She played a sensational century knock, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur added a crucial run-a-ball 80. Together, they powered India to chase down the highest-ever total in women’s cricket – and that too in a World Cup semi-final.
Virat Kohli, a 2011 World Cup winner himself, took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the incredible win and the team’s fighting spirit.
“What a victory by our team over a mighty opponent like Australia. A great chase by the girls and a standout performance by Jemimah in a big game. A true display of resilience, belief, and passion. Well done, Team India!” wrote Virat Kohli on X.

India Ends Australia’s Longest World Cup Winning Streak
The Australian women’s team has been a dominant force in world cricket, with unmatched consistency and success across tournaments. Under Alyssa Healy’s leadership, they entered the semifinal on the back of a 15-match World Cup winning streak, which stretched from 2022 to 2025.
That incredible run came to an end when India pulled off the record chase in Navi Mumbai. Interestingly, the previous record for the longest winning streak was also held by Australia, from 1997 to 2000.
The last time Australia faced a World Cup defeat was also against India, back in the 2017 semi-final in Derbyshire. Once again, India became the team to stop the Australian juggernaut. Australia, the defending champions with seven World Cup titles, now see their dream of another crown come to an end.
India Women Set to Face South Africa in the World Cup Final
India will now take on South Africa in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final. This marks India’s second home World Cup final in recent years, after the men’s team reached the 2023 final – also against Australia.
This time, the Indian women will face the Proteas, who were runners-up in the last ICC T20 World Cup. The upcoming final guarantees a new champion, as neither India nor South Africa has ever won the Women’s World Cup title.
For India, this will be their third World Cup final appearance, after finishing as runners-up in 2005 and 2017. Meanwhile, South Africa will be stepping onto the grand stage for the first time, setting up what promises to be an unforgettable title clash.
