At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the five-time champion Mumbai Indians by a huge margin of eight wickets to start their Indian Premier League 2023 campaign off to a great start. For RCB, Virat Kohli shone with the bat as he scored 82 runs off 49 balls, smashing six fours and five sixes during his innings.
Bangalore was guided by Kohli and Faf du Plessis, who scored 73 off 43 balls, to chase down the 172-run target with 22 balls remaining. RCB has participated in the IPL since it began in 2008, but in their nearly 16-year history, they have never taken home the coveted trophy.
In response to the team’s trophy drought, Kohli recently claimed that because RCB is a major franchise, fans have high expectations for the group. The star batter also talked about the team’s social media presence on an episode of RCB Insider.
“Our performance on social media is far superior to everyone else’s. There, pick up a trophy, then observe. One social media trophy is all you need to see how RCB will fare. No rivalry at all. We will triumph after two weeks of the competition. It is not necessary to play the 4-5 remaining games “said Kohli.
The 34-year-old also claimed that people make fun of them for not winning a trophy but are unaware of the amount of pressure they endure. He added that their team’s enormous fan base is proof that they are a major organisation and not just a regular one.
“Big franchise pressure, indeed. Many people view it as pure entertainment, as in “This team loses.” Come and have fun while there are so many demands on you. We have a large team. If we were some faaltu team, why else would we have so many fans? “Kohli came to an end.
The RCB bowling unit destroyed MI in the opening game
Recalling the first match between RCB and MI, the Faf du Plessis-led team dominated Mumbai’s batting in the first innings, reducing them to 48/4 after 8.5 overs. MI needed a hero’s knock from Tilak Varma, who scored a magnificent 84* off 46 balls to save them.
With the exception of Glenn Maxwell, all of RCB’s bowlers contributed to wickets as they held MI to 171/7 in the allotted 20 overs. After a strong start to the season, RCB will try to keep winning when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders on April 6 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
