Washington Sundar To Join IND Squad For The 2nd IND vs NZ Test
Washington Sundar confirms his spot in the IND vs NZ 2nd Test.
Recently, Washington Sundar scored a brilliant century during the Ranji Trophy.
Washington Sundar has been added to the Indian team for the remaining two Test matches in the ongoing Test series between India and New Zealand. Sundar will be added as the 16th member of the Test team. The second Test will be played in Pune from October 24 and the final Test will be played in Mumbai from November 1.
In the second Test to be played between India and New Zealand in Pune, it is expected that this pitch will help spinners more than Bengaluru. In such a situation, there is also a possibility that one more spinner plays in the Indian team and Washington is included before Axar Patel. This will also give depth to the batting order.
Washington Sundar’s recent brilliant ton in the Ranji Trophy
Washington Sundar had recently scored a brilliant century and also took two wickets in a Ranji Trophy match played against Delhi in Delhi.
On Sunday, Washington bowled a total of 15 overs in front of national selector S Sharath and took two important wickets with his spinning balls. First of all, he got the left-handed opening batsman Harsh Tyagi caught by Baba Indrajit in the slip with a beautiful off-break ball and broke Delhi’s opening partnership of 74 runs.
After this, he also got the right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman Pranav Rajvanshi, who was playing steadily, out with an in-swinging off-break ball. Rajvanshi could not understand Washington’s spinning length ball and got caught by Andre Sharath standing at short leg. Apart from this, Washington also beat many batsmen including Delhi’s century-maker Yash Dhull with his spin.
Even though the pitch was not that helpful, this also shows that he is ready to bowl long spells. Before this, he had played three matches in the Duleep Trophy but except for one innings in six innings, he had never bowled 10 overs.
After that performance, Washington said, “Of course, Test cricket is the best format. Everyone gives it a lot of importance. Red ball cricket is very special to me. Hopefully, I keep playing this format continuously and keep performing well.”
Washington was last part of the Indian Test team in February. Then he replaced Ravindra Jadeja in the second Test of the home series against England. However, he did not play any match against England. Washington has been in the eyes of the selectors in various formats for many years.
