India will take on West Indies in the last match of the Super Eight leg of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Both teams will look to win the game in question as it will help them qualify for the semi-final of the tournament.
The Venues
Pakistan’s ast over win against Sri Lanka in the last match of the group stage means that both semi final games will take place in India with the team finishing second in the points table in Group 2 taking on England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai while the tram that will top the group will go head to head against New Zealand in Kolkata who confirmed their spot as Pakistan failrd to win the game against Sri Lanka by a certain margin to stay ahead of New Zealand on net run rate.
The Scenario
The question that we are asking in this article is where and who will India face in the semi-final of the 20-team tournament?
Realistically, there are high chances that the defending T20 World Cup winners will take on the former champions England, who finished on top in the standings of Group 2, taking into account the huge difference in net run rate between India and South Africa.
India’s net run rate is in a negative territory right now, and there are two scenerios one of which is highly improbable, where they can go past South Africa on net run rate.
The Permutation
For starters, Zimbabwe will have to beat South Africa in the first match of the day, and if they manage to do so, they will have to ensure that the margin of victory is at least 150 runs approximately.
For example, if Zimbabwe bats first and posts 200 runs on the board, then they will have to restrict South Africa to 50 runs or less. Anything less than the mentioned margin of victory will keep South Africa’s net run rate, which currently is +2.890, way ahead of India.

The Job
If Zimbabwe is able to achieve both things, India will also have to do their part in an attempt to ensure that they finish on top in Group 1. The Men in Blue will have to get the better of West Indies by a margin of 150 runs or more to book a spot in the first semi-final.
The Possibility
However, if both Zimbabwe and India are able to win their respective matches by the above mentioned margins, it still won’t guarantee a top-of-the-table finish for India, and we will get a clearer picture once the last match of the second round gets underway, meaning that India and South Africa will have to wait for the result of the India vs West Indies game to know the venue and the opponent of their semi final game.
