Phil Jackson, a former NBA head coach who led the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers to 11 titles, holds the record. The only coach with multiple championship victories across several teams is him. He amassed six championships with the Bulls and five with the Lakers. He also leads the NBA in both the number of postseasons wins and postseason games coached. With the Boston Celtics, Red Auerbach won nine titles. His first championship came in 1957, and from 1959 through 1966, he won eight in a row. Each of the current Spurs head coach Popovich, Pat Riley, and John Kundla has won five championships. As Kundla did with the Lakers, Popovich won every championship while coaching the Spurs.

Riley won one championship with the Miami Heat and four with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Coach of the Year Award has been won three times by Riley, Nelson, and Popovich, and twice by Fitch, Hubie Brown, Mike Budenholzer, Mike D’Antoni, Cotton Fitzsimmons, Gene Shue, and Tom Thibodeau.
