Who Is Mallika Sagar?
Mallika Sagar first grabbed the spotlight in 2024 when she became the first woman to serve as auctioneer for the IPL, taking over from Hugh Edmeades, who held the role from 2019 to 2022.
Her journey began in 2023 during an IPL auction where she stepped in for Edmeades after he collapsed mid-event. Her calm and confident handling of the situation impressed the Board of Control for Cricket in India, eventually earning her the position of full-time IPL auctioneer.
A Strong Foundation in the Auction World
Born and raised in Mumbai, Sagar comes from a business-oriented family and developed an interest in auctions early on. She studied art history at Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia before joining the renowned Christie’s auction house in 2001.
