The Announcement
Aiden Markram is set to be announced as the captain of the Manchester Super Giants for the 2026 edition of The Hundred.
The Report
According to a report in ESPN Cricinfo, the South African captain, who also leads the Durban Super Giants in the SA20, is expected to captain the newly formed Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred.
The Responsibility
Markram, who is now a part of three Super Giants teams, namely the Durban Super Giants in the SA20, the Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred and the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. If the right-hander is appointed as the captain of Manchester Super Giants, he will be leading two of the three above-mentioned teams.
Coach’s Corner
Justin Langer, the head coach of the Manchester Super Giants, said that getting Aiden Markram was the first priority of the team in the auction.
What They Said
In the words of Justin Langer, who was quoted by ESPN Cricinfo, “It’s nice to have him in three of our teams: brilliant player, outstanding human being, and also real captaincy material,” Langer said. “That’s one of the facets of his game that we love, his leadership.”
Other Key Developments
Other than Markram being announced as the captain of the Manchester Super Giants, there are reports that Harry Brook might be replaced as the captain of Sunrisers Leeds, the same team that picked Pakistani leg spinner Abrar Ahmed in the auction, a move that caused huge backlash.

The Decision
However, Daniel Vettori was hopeful that Brook could still lead the side. “I think he likes the team, so maybe we can twist his arm and get him there. We’ll just wait and see.” Vetorri said after the auction.
Vettori further said, “We understand Harry’s commitments and how full on he is,” Vettori added. “He’ll come [into the Hundred] on the back of a Test series and a white-ball series as well. He’ll only be able to join up with us one or two days before the start of the [first] game.
“That’ll be a conversation between himself and myself around whether he thinks he wants to do it. But the likes of Mitch Marsh, Dan Lawrence, Zak Crawley have all got captaincy experience as well. So we can lean on those guys too.”
The Concern
The former New Zealand spinner’s reaction came in response to the fact that Harry Brook, who is the white-ball captain of England, will have a short time to recover from the ODI series against India, which ends two days before the first day of the upcoming edition of The Hundred, where the Sunrisers Leeds take on MI London.
