Star India left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is known for his fearless, explosive batting style. He plays a crucial role in the top order and has anchored the innings multiple times for India. Kishan was removed from the BCCI central contract in 2024; however, he made a strong comeback and played a vital role in guiding India to the T20 World Cup 2026.

Why is Ishan Kishan called ‘Pocket Dynamo’?

In the cricketing world where towering six-footers often dominate the headlines, Ishan Kishan, who is just 5 feet 6 inches (168 cm), has earned the affectionate nickname ‘Pocket Dynamo’. He was given the nickname by Hardik Pandya during his time at the Mumbai Indians.

The nickname “Pocket” reflects his comparatively smaller height, while “Dynamo” symbolizes the power-hitting he brings to every innings. Ishan possesses an attacking mindset that can change the course of a match within a few overs.

Ishan always comes with intensity and flair at the crease, whether taking on the bowlers in the powerplay or guiding his team in high-pressure chases. His strength and quick reflexes make him one of the most entertaining and dangerous batsmen in modern cricket.

Ishan Kishan was removed from the BCCI’s central contract list

Born on July 18, 1998, in Patna, Ishan Kishan grabbed everyone’s attention when he led India at the Under-19 level. His fearless batting displays in domestic cricket for Jharkhand quickly established him as one of the country’s most exciting rising stars, eventually earning him a high-profile IPL career with franchises like the Mumbai Indians, and later he was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Ishan’s international career suffered a major setback in 2024 when he was removed from the BCCI’s central contract list after he had asked for a break from the selectors. For a period of two years, Kishan was out of the senior cricket team, but god has other plans.

Kishan led Jharkhand to their maiden SMAT trophy and finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, which also opened the gate for his senior team selection. Ishan later played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 triumph, with a total of 317 runs in 9 matches at an average of 35.22 and an explosive strike rate of 193.29.
