Why was Richarlison crying while being on the bench?

Brazil’s striker, Richarlison was spotted in tears while being on the bench after being taken off during Brazil’s 5-1 victory over Bolivia.

Richarlison claims his tears on Brazil’s bench last week were caused by personal problems unrelated to sport and that he will consult a psychologist when he gets back to Tottenham. Following his substitution in Brazil’s 5-1 victory over Bolivia on Friday night, the 26-year-old was seen sobbing on the team’s bench.

It was assumed that Richarlison, who has gone five games without scoring for Brazil, was upset after not converting a close-range opportunity into a goal against Bolivia. The Tottenham attacker, who started for Tuesday’s 1-0 triumph over Peru and had a goal disallowed for offside by VAR, has said that his troubles off the field have contributed to his struggles on the field.

Richarlison to seek help from Psychologist

Richarlison opened up about mental issues and how he will try to improve on his return to the Premier League. The Brazilian forward said, “That sad moment [on Brazil’s bench] wasn’t even because I played poorly, in my opinion, I didn’t play a bad game in Belem, it was more of an outburst about the things that were happening off the field, which got out of control not on my part, but on the part of people who were close to me.” The Tottenham striker will be returning to the Premier League after the international break. He talked about how he would seek psychological help from a professional. “I’m going to go back to England, I’ll seek psychological help, from a psychologist, to work on my mind. That’s it, come back stronger.”

Richarlison at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspurs have a streak of formidable opponents against them in the span of the next three weeks. Tottenham will be playing Sheffield United this weekend followed by the North-London derby against Arsenal on 24th September. Spurs will then play host to Liverpool on 30th September. While speaking about his return, Richarlison talked about how he needs to have a discussion with the club. The forward said, “I believe I will be in the next squad, I will work for that. It’s about getting a good streak at Tottenham, this week I’m going to sit down and talk to them, I need a good streak, get the rhythm of the game and get here well.”

Richarlison about his past

The Brazilian forward explained how the last few months have been difficult and how things have improved. “I went through a turbulent time in the last five months off the field. Now things are right at home. People who only had an eye on my money walked away from me. Now things will start to flow, I’m sure I’ll get a good run at Tottenham and make things happen again.” Tottenham who are placed second on the Premier League table would want Richarlison to find his goal-scoring form sooner rather than later considering the fixtures they have ahead of them. Spurs are tied on points with 3rd-placed, Liverpool, 4th-placed, West Ham and 5th-placed, Arsenal. Their performance against Arsenal and Liverpool in the coming weeks could play a huge role in determining their position in the Premier League table at the end of the season.
