On matchday 15 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will hope to rebound after suffering a demoralising loss at the hands of former champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On Monday at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Bangalore franchise will play KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). At the same location, the team led by Virat Kohli won an impressive victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) to start their IPL campaign.
At Eden Gardens, RCB appeared to be on track to win their second game of the new season against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). During KKR’s opening home game of the new season, the Bangalore-based team had Kolkata down to 89 for 5. Shardul Thakur played a memorable knock to demolish the Bangalore heavyweights at Eden Gardens while staging an impressive comeback for the Knight Riders. The 103-run partnership between Shardul and Rinku Singh helped KKR reach a massive total of 204-7 in 20 overs.
After decimating the Mumbai Indians’ bowling unit in their previous game, Kohli and Du Plessis found it difficult to counterattack the KKR spinners in the high-scoring match. As RCB collapsed for 123 in 17.4 overs, it is interesting to note that spinners Varun Chakaravarthy (4), Sunil Narine (2), and debutant Suyash Sharma (3) shared nine wickets. After their respective batting collapses against KKR in the previous game, openers Kohli and Du Plessis will be hoping for a significantly improved performance.
Although the star batters will keep their spots in the starting XI, superstars Glenn Maxwell and wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik have also failed to ignite RCB. Reece Topley, an England fast bowler, suffered a dislocated right shoulder against the Mumbai Indians that forced him out of the IPL 2023. While injured batter Rajat Patidar has been replaced by pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak in the RCB squad, Wayne Parnell has been named as Topley’s replacement. The spinner from Sri Lanka Wanindu Hasaranga, who missed the league’s opening two games, will play in the remaining games of the lucrative competition. On Monday, Hasaranga was anticipated to report to the RCB camp. The pace attack of RCB against LSG will be led by pacers Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj.

On matchday 15 of the lucrative league, Hasaranga, Michael Bracewell, Sonu Yadav, Mahipal Lomror, Suyash Prabhudessai, and Anuj Rawat are likely to compete for the Impact Player position. RCB are currently ranked seventh in the IPL 2023 standings after two games with one win and one loss.
