Wojciech Szczesny has made a great comeback and in what way. After retiring at Juventus with 200 appearances for the club, he had made the decision to put a fullstop to his career. The shot-stopper has been one of the best at what he does but past his prime was doubted highly at Juventus, his last club. But this has been like a rebirth for the keeper who has carried on a stellar season at Barcelona, arguably the best team of the season.

March 30, 2024 was the last time Szczesny lost a club game – during his time at Juventus – as a mark of his career turnaround this season. This means that he has not lost a game in a year.

Verbal agreement close

Now, providing an update on the renewal talks, Fabrizio Romano reports that the verbal agreement between Szczesny and Barcelona over a new contract is almost done.

This development comes after sources from Poland insisted that the veteran player was 99% certain about signing a new deal with the Blaugrana.

The report from Romano further states that only a few minor details remain to be sorted with the player’s green light, following which he will pen a year-long extension until 2026.

Manager Hansi Flick and the Barça board have already given their approval to the renewal, having been impressed by how Szczesny has adapted to the club in a short period.

Szczesny’s new role, and Ter Stegen’s incoming return to full fitness, could mean the end of Inaki Pena’s Barcelona career this summer as he wants to move on in search of a first team role elsewhere in La Liga.
