The World Triathlon Championship Series will open the season with an event in Abu Dhabi. The stage will provide the triathletes to secure their first points of the year.
Both last year’s champions Britain’s Alex Yee and France’s Cassandre Beaugrand will be missing from the first race for this year’s world title.
2025 World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi: Athletes to watch
After missing out on Olympic gold in Paris, Hayden Wilde will be aiming to start the new season on a high. The New Zealander had an impressive 2024 season, with his silver in Paris followed by a third place in the overall standings of the Championship Series.
Other contenders to watch are Australia’s Matt Hauser who is the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist.
Spain’s Antonio Serrat Seoane and Roberto Sanchez Mantecon will also be looking for podium finishes, while Britain’s hopes will lie with the likes of Hugo Milner, who can do great at the shorter sprint course.
On the women’s side, Paris 2024 mixed relay gold medallists Lisa Tertsch and Laura Lindemann form a strong German team. Both will be looking to top the podium in Abu Dhabi.
Rio 2016 Olympic champion Gwen Jorgensen and Paris 2024 mixed relay silver medallist Taylor Spivey both competing for Team USA.
Meanwhile, France’s hopes will be carried by Leonie Periault, part of the mixed relay team that won bronze at the Olympic Games in France.
