WTT Star Contender Qualifying Recap: Who Made The Cut

The WTT Star Contender 2025 is underway, starting on 25 March and concluding on 30 March. The tournament is taking place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, India, and features a massive prize pool of USD 275,000, with top players competing from over 20 nations. 

The tournament also features some of the best table tennis players like Sharath Kamal, who is a five-time Olympian and will be making his last career appearance. Matches are being held on a daily basis, and two rounds have already been concluded, which were the qualifying rounds. 

In the men’s singles category, Abhinandh Pradhivadhi, the 17-year-old Indian prodigy, is in the spotlight after defeating Oyebode John and advancing to the final round of qualifiers. Similarly, Divyanshi Bhowmick, a 14-year-old prodigy, is in the headlines for being the main attraction in the women’s singles category.

The mixed doubles team of Ayhika Mukherjee and Ankur Bhattacharjee also had a successful run until now, advancing to the main draw, showing India’s dominance in the sport and the WTT Star Contender. 

In women’s doubles, Nithya Mani and Radhapirya Gorl advanced to the main draw along with others, however, Yashvini Sivasankar and Selena Selvakunar faced a significant defeat, losing to the second-seeded duo of Hong Kong, Tsz Lam and Lee Hoi Man. 

The men’s singles category saw an impressive performance of, again, Indian players, Abinandh Pradhivadhi and Preyesh Suresh, who defeated the USA duo with a decisive score of 3-0. Overall, the qualifying rounds of WTT Star Contender for all categories were highly dominated by the Indian players.
