Wimbledon 2024: 5 Men’s Singles First Round Draws To Watch Out For

Wimbledon 2024 kicks-off on Monday and all eyes have shifted to the London grass-court.

Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Coco Gauff are some of the prominent players who will be in action on the opening day at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Each match in the men’s draw is determined in best-of-five sets. Sets are determined by tiebreakers if the scores were even at 6-6 with the first to reach 10 points with a two-point lead adjudged as the winner of the set.

Let us have a look at the top five clashes that is set to take place in the first round draw in men’s singles at the Wimbledon 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Mark Lajal

World no. 3 and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain will take on Mark Lajal of Estonia in the opening day of Wimbledon Open. Lajal is currently ranked world no. 262.

Fans of Alcaraz would be like to see their boy in action as he would look to continue his winning streak after the title victory at French Open 2024

Jannik Sinner vs Yannick Hanfmann

World no. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy will face off with Yannick Hanfmann of Germany in the first round draw of men’s singles at Wimbledon 2024. Hanfmann, who is currently ranked world no. 85, made a first round exit at the last Wimbledon Open in 2023.

Alexander Zverev vs R. Carballés Baena

World no 4 Alexander Zverev of Germany will face Spain’s Carballés Baena. Zverev  has never got past the last 16 at the All England Club. However, he German has projected himself as a serious contender in the title run.

Currently world no. 16, Baena has crashed out after second round in the previous Wimbledon Open.

Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) vs Dusan Lajovic (SRB)

Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria is being considered as one of the dark horses of Wimbledon 2024. The world no.10 will meet Dusan Lajovic of Serbia. Lajovic is currently ranked wolrd no.56.

Tommy Paul vs Pedro Martinez

Tommy Paul will be looking to make it big for his country, the USA, which has not won a Grand Slam title since 2003.

The World no. 12 will lock horns in the first round of men’s singles with Pedro Martinez of Spain who is currently ranked world. no 46.
