James Scott Connors, popularly known as Jimmy Connors, was one of America’s greatest tennis players. He became victorious at the US Open on five occasions, including 1974, 1976, 1978, 1982, and 1983. He is one of the only three players to have achieved this feat.  He is one of the three players with most US Open titles.

During his illustrious 24-year career, the American won eight Grand Slams and held the extraordinary record of appearing in the top ten rankings for 16 years. Connors was the only player to win the US Open title on three different turfs – clay, grass, and hard court.

Another American to have the most US Open titles is Pete Sampras. Sampras won the US Open title five times, with the first one in 1990 when he was just 19. He went on to win the title in 23, 25, 26 and 2002.

Roger Federer is one of the greatest legends of tennis and has five US Open titles to his name. Unstoppable during his peak, the Swiss won the title five consecutive times from 2004 to 2008, one of the most US Open titles by a player.

Another American in the list, John McEnroe has the most US Open titles in the history of tennis.  McEnroe has four US Open titles and, three of them he won consecutively from 1979 to 1981 to become one of the players with most US Open titles.

The fourth title for McEnroe came in 1984, when he beat Ivan Lendl.  After this victory, he set a record for the greatest winning season in terms of percentage in the Open era. A win-loss record of 82-3 was an exceptional feat achieved by this legendary American player. He won 96.47% of his matches.

If there is any other Grand Slam that Rafael Nadal has won more than two times, other than the French Open, is the US Open. The Spaniard is one of  the players with most US Open titles with four wins.

Novak Djokovic scripted history at the 2023 US Open by winning his 24th grand slam title. He has won titles at Flushing Meadows on five occasions in 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2023.
