IND vs SL: After enduring a humiliating defeat in the 3-match T20I series against the Indian cricket team-led by Suryakumar Yadav, the Sri Lankan cricket team will be looking forward to making a comeback in the upcoming 3-match ODI series on home soil. The Men in Blue handed a 3-0 defeat to the Charith Aslanka-led Sri Lankan cricket team.
However, ahead of the much-awaited ODI series, which will witness the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in action following their T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, the Sri Lankan cricket team has made some changes in the squad. While superstar bowlers Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madhushanka have been ruled out of the series because of their respective injuries, the team has made a bold bet by adding an uncapped player named Mohamed Shiraz to the squad.
Who Is Mohamed Shiraz? Lanka’s Bold Bet For India Series
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has added Mohamed Shiraz to their 3-match ODI series against the Indian cricket team. He has been added as a replacement for their superstar pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who was ruled out of the series after he suffered a shoulder injury during the third and final match of the T20I series against the Men in Blue.
Mohamed Shiraz has been making waves in domestic cricket and can turn out to be a key for the Sri Lankans in the upcoming series. He has amassed over 500 runs across the formats. The pacer is currently plying his trade for the Burgher Recreation Club in the Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament.

Recently, Mohamed Shiraz garnered a lot of attention after he showcased his potential with a stunning performance, picking up 6 wickets for just 21 runs against Kurunegaka Youth Cricket Club, which turned out to be his best bowling figures in List-A. So far in his career, Shiraz has played 47 List A games, picking 80 wickets at an impressive average of 17.52.
Apart from this, Shiraz also has experience in first-class cricket as he has played 49 FC games and has picked 125 wickets at an amazing economy rate of 3.65 and an average of 31. Shiraz has also picked 23 T20 wickets to his name in 23 games in Sri Lanka’s domestic contests.
The first ODI of a three-match series between Sri Lanka and India will take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, August 2. The iconic venue will also host the subsequent two ODIs of the series on August 4 and August 7.
The hosts lost the T20I series by a 0-3 margin to world champions India at the Pallekele International Stadium earlier this week.
