ICC made a big announcement, on the Women’s Future Tour Program (FTP) from 2025 to 2029. Based on this, the fourth season of the ICC Women’s Championship will also be played. Not only this, but some main tournaments of ICC and some triangular series will also be included. The second women’s FTP will run from May 2025 to April 2029, which is a collective effort of the ICC’s support members and its goal is to play as many matches as possible in all three international formats. About 400 matches have been confirmed in all three formats.
ICC’s commitments in Women’s FTP
All formats have seen a significant increase compared to last year (2022-2025) and according to this FTP, a six-team tournament will be played in the ICCs tournament every year, with the first 6-team Champions Trophy in 2027. Many people have been eagerly waiting for this important tournament for a long time. Apart from this, other International Cricket Council programs are also included like ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India in 2025, Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026, and the 2028 edition of this tournament.
The number of teams participating in the Women’s Championship has increased to 11, which was earlier played between only 10 teams. In the Women’s Championship, all teams will play 8 series against other teams. These series will be played in the same way as they are being played this season, four series at home and four away. In total, 132 ODIs will be played in 44 series, which will include all three matches. This will also make the path to qualification for the ICC Women’s World Cup easier and all teams will get a chance to perform well.
ICC’s General Manager of Cricket put forth his point of view
International Cricket Council’s General Manager of Cricket Wasim Khan said, ‘We are all very excited. This new women’s FTP is going to be very great. All the teams will be seen performing brilliantly in it. Zimbabwe has been included as the 11th team. The FTP will prove to be very helpful for the teams and the fans as well. All the members are very happy with the upcoming FTP and we are also planning a triangular series in ICC events.
All the fans will enjoy this cycle a lot and I am hopeful that all the teams will also be fully prepared to perform brilliantly. We want to thank all the members of the board for approving the FTP.’
