Gent Wevelgem 2025: Riders To Watch Ft. Tadej Pogacar; Check Route Details, Start Time, Where To Watch

The Gent Wevelgem 2025 is scheduled to take place this weekend, opening the Belgian road cycling classics season. Competitions will beheld in both men’s and women’s categories leading up to the Tour of Flanders on 6 April.

While this will be the 77th men’s edition, this year marks the 14th edition of the women’s race.

Both races will take place on Sunday, 30 March, starting in Ypres and finishing in Wevelgem.

The highlight will be Reigning world champion Tadej Pogacar is all set to make his debut in the event. Defending champion Mads Pedersen of Denmark and former world champions Eritrea’s Biniam Girmay (2022), along with sprinters Jasper Philipsen and Tim Merlier of Belgium and Italy’s Jonathan Milan are riders to look for at Gent Wevelgem 2025.

In the women’s field, Wiebes, the recent winner of Sanremo Women, will return to action on Sunday, along with Balsamo and former winner Floortje Mackaij of the Netherlands. Paris 2024 bronze medalist Lotte Kopecky of Belgium and the Italian duo of Elisa Longo Borghini and Chiara Consonni are other cyclists to watch out for.

Gent Wevelgem 2025: Route for men’s race

The men’s route will be at 250.3 km this year, which is about 2.8 km shorter than in 2024.

The course rolls through the Flanders Fields, paying homage to the victims of World War I. After an opening section highlighted by the famous Moeren, it will feature the following climbs:

  • Scherpenberg, kilometre 147.9 (102.4 km to go)
  • Baneberg, kilometre 156.7 (93.6 km to go)
  • Monteberg, kilometre 162.2 (87.7 km to go)
  • Kemmelberg (Belvedère), kilometre 164.4 (85.9 km to go)
  • Monteberg, kilometre 192.7 (57.6 km to go)
  • Kemmelberg (Belvedère), kilometre 194.5 (55.8 km to go)
  • Scherpenberg, kilometre 202 (48.3 km to go)
  • Baneberg, kilometre 210.7 (39.6 km to go)
  • Kemmelberg (Ossuaire), kilometre 216 (34.3 km to go)

The women’s route covers 169.1 km across two large loops. Here’s the list of climbs featured.

Over the years, the race has been traditionally affected by rain and wind conditions, and recent modifications have made the race more closely resemble the Tour of Flanders.

The iconic Kemmelberg ascent could be the decisive section of the race again, with the victory often decided by bunch sprints or small breakaways.
