In an emerging scandal, ex-Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie blames PCB for breach of contract after leaving the position abruptly in December 2024. The matter has developed into a contractual and legal dispute, where each side has raised contradictory claims.
Gillespie Accuses PCB of Unpaid Dues and Contractual Commitments Dispute

Billy Gillespie, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) failed to pay him for his work, which included bonuses linked to Pakistan’s historic Test series win over England in October 2024, followed by a subsequent ODI series defeat to Australia, payable on his return to Australia. Gillespie claims he has written guarantees of those bonuses, and further drinks and accommodation payments that have not been paid.
The former coach has approached the ICC for assistance, but it is unknown whether the ICC can intervene in monetary disputes between a coach and a national board.
PCB Reacts: Gillespie Violated Contract by Failing to Serve Notice

In rebuttal to the charges, the PCB made a public statement refuting Gillespie’s monetary claims. The board maintains that Gillespie himself violated the agreement by resigning without fulfilling the mandatory four-month notice period. This, the PCB contends, is a “clear breach of contractual terms.”
Sources in the PCB say that although they have replied to Gillespie’s legal team, they are still waiting for a response. The board is now considering legal recourse, including the option of claiming damages from Gillespie for premature contract termination.
Breakdown in Relationship Before Resignation

Differences between Gillespie and the PCB started way before his actual resignation. Gillespie was relieved of his place on the selection panel in October 2024, an action that was said to downgrade his role to being a simple “matchday strategist.” He then said that this reduced responsibility did not match what he had committed himself to.
Further pressure was introduced when his deputy coach, Tim Nielsen, was told that he would not be retained on a contract. Gillespie saw this move as an attempt to undermine him and drive him into resignation rather than paying a severance allowance. The next morning, Gillespie formally resigned, blaming the PCB for “completely and utterly blindsiding him.”
Coaching Vacancy and Aftermath

The Gillespie-PCB dispute broke into the open only a day after the board issued an advertisement seeking a new head coach. Aqib Javed, the interim coach who replaced Gillespie in December after his departure, will not stay with the coaching arrangement following a run of uninspiring performances.
This places Pakistan’s national team in trouble, on and off the field, as the board seeks to address internal management problems and install a new coaching team before international assignments ahead.
Legal Battle Looms as Gillespie Blames PCB
While Jason Gillespie accuses PCB of not honoring financial commitments and violating trust, the battle seems far from over. As both sides dig in their heels and legal options are being considered, this saga points to the underlying organizational issues in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s management of its coaching contracts.
