The final of the Queens Club was held at the historic Queen’s Club in London on 22 June. It was truly a finale-worthy showdown as it showcased two of the tour’s most exciting young talents. Carlos Alcaraz, who was already a five-time Grand Slam champion, started strong with his powerful serve and aggressive baseline play to edge out the first set 7-5. Lehecka, ranked world No. 30 and fresh off a semifinal victory over Britain’s Jack Draper, refused to give up. He matched Alcaraz shot for shot in the second set, ultimately forcing a tiebreaker and clinching it 7-6(5).

Carlos Alcaraz’s Decisive Response

With the decider match now ready for a battle, Alcaraz elevated his game in the deciding set. He broke Lehecka’s early dominance to defend his Queens Club title. Carlos Alcaraz is considered one of the best grass-court players of his generation due to his resilience and amazing playing style. Meanwhile, Lehecka was making his first grass-court final appearance, and continued to fight but could not edge out Alcaraz.

A Historic Win

This victory is significant for several reasons. Alcaraz now joins an elite group of Spaniards, alongside Rafael Nadal and Feliciano Lopez, with four grass-court titles in the Open Era, which is the most among Spanish men. He also became just the fifth active player to win four or more grass titles, joining Novak Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini.

Moreover, Alcaraz achieved this feat just two weeks after winning the French Open, becoming the first player since Nadal in 2008 to win Roland Garros and Queen’s back-to-back.

Alcaraz’s win at Queen’s makes him the red-hot favourite for his third consecutive Wimbledon crown.

Reflecting on his win, Alcaraz said, “This tournament is really special to me. I’m just happy to lift the trophy once again. I came without expectation, just to play good tennis and get used to the grass. I was lucky to have a lot of friends and family here that made me feel really comfortable on and off the court”.

Lehecka gracefully accepted his defeat and said, “Of course, I’m super happy today, I had the chance to fight for the title. Well done to Carlos and your team for doing a great job, as always. I gave everything I had. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. It’s always great to be back in Queens”.
