Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid has parted ways with the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals. The news was confirmed by the franchise on Saturday.

On Saturday, August 30th, the Rajasthan Royals took to their social media and shared an emotional goodbye message for the former Indian cricketer, confirming the news of Dravid stepping down from the position of head coach just after one season.

For the unversed, Rahul Dravid joined Rajasthan Royals as head coach last year after his tenure with the Indian cricket team as head coach came to an end. However, Rahul Dravid failed to deliver in the 2025 edition of the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals.
He was criticized for his decisions, as under his guidance, the team could manage to win only four out of 14 games, and eventually, the team finished ninth in the points table.
Sharing an emotional note for the legendary cricketer, Rajasthan Royals wrote: “Your presence in Pink inspired both the young and the seasoned. Forever a Royal. Forever grateful.”

In their official statement, the franchise revealed that Rahul Dravid was offered a broader position at RR, after a structural review was conducted by the franchise. However, Dravid opted to part ways with the franchise.
“Rajasthan Royals today announced that head coach Rahul Dravid will conclude his tenure with the franchise ahead of IPL 2026. Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey for many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, instilled strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise,” the franchise stated in a post on social media.
“As part of the franchise structural review, Rahul had been offered a broader position at the franchise, but has chosen not to take this. The Rajasthan Royals, its players, and millions of fans worldwide extend heartfelt thanks to Rahul for his remarkable service to the franchise,” the statement added.

Chandrakant Pandit also parted ways with KKR ahead of IPL 2026
Rahul Dravid is the second head coach who have parted ways with the IPL franchise ahead of the IPL 2026 mega auction. Last month, Kolkata Knight Riders‘ head coach Chandrakant Pandit also parted ways with the franchise.

Chandrakant Pandit joined KKR as the head coach ahead of IPL 2023 and helped the team win the prestigious cup in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League. Pandit is only the second Indian head coach, after Ashish Nehra, to win an IPL title.
