Ireland suffered a setback ahead of their Bangladesh tour as Ross Adair has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series owing to a bone stress injury in his knee. The injury has forced the hard-hitting opener to miss out on crucial preparation time ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup.

Jordan Neill Named Replacement

Jordan Neill has been added to the T20I squad in Adair’s absence. Neill was part of Ireland’s 15-man Test squad for the Bangladesh tour but will now stay on with the team for the limited-overs leg. The young all-rounder made his international debut in May 2025 but had missed a major chunk of the home season because of an injury he sustained while fielding.

Ross Adair Recent Form

Before he was laid low by injury, Ross Adair had shown excellent form in 2025, including a fluent 48 against West Indies, while he hit 26 and 33 against England. The most significant innings played by Adair came last year when he smashed a 58-ball century against South Africa, marking him out as one of the most explosive T20 batters in the Ireland ranks.

Selectors Express Disappointment

Ireland’s national selector, Andrew White, reflects on Adair’s injury thus:

“It’s very unfortunate to have lost Ross on the eve of the Bangladesh tour. He had proven his value at the top of the T20I order, and we were keenly looking ahead to seeing how he acquitted himself against Bangladesh.”

White also added that the team will use this opportunity to experiment with different batting combinations and strategies leading up to the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Focus on Squad Flexibility

With Adair ruled out, the selectors are likely to rearrange the batting lineup. White insisted that players who can bat at the top will be tried to provide more depth for the late and middle overs.

He also mentioned that the left-handed middle-order batter Ben Calitz will bring some much-needed variety into the lineup. “This tour gives us a valuable chance to assess how our players adapt to varying conditions,” White added.

Tour Schedule

Ireland’s tour of Bangladesh gets underway in Sylhet on November 11 with the first Test, while the second follows from November 19 in Mirpur. The action will shift to the three-match T20I series starting on November 27.
