Shai Hope created history by scoring an unbeaten 109 against New Zealand in Napier, becoming the first player to score centuries against all 11 Full Member nations.

Beyond that, Hope has also registered ODI tons against the Netherlands and Nepal, thus making him the only batter to have centuries against 13 different international teams, outdoing Mahela Jayawardene and Chris Gayle, who did so against 12 sides.

Record-Breaking ODI Achievements

Most ODI Hundreds Against Different Opponents

Hope now holds the record for scoring ODI hundreds against 12 different teams, overtaking legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Chris Gayle, Hashim Amla, and Martin Guptill, all of whom reached triple figures against 11 opposition teams.

ODI Hundreds in Foreign Countries

This makes New Zealand the 10th country in which Shai Hope has notched up an ODI century. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya, 12 each, have achieved more. Gayle and Virat Kohli are also on ten countries.

Run-Scoring Milestones

Fastest to 6000 ODI Runs for West Indies

Hope crossed the 6000-run mark in ODIs off 142 innings, thus becoming the second-fastest West Indian to achieve the feat–just one inning slower than the legendary Viv Richards (141).

19 ODI Centuries: Among West Indies’ Finest

With 19 ODI hundreds, Hope now sits at joint second in the West Indies list alongside Brian Lara, only behind Chris Gayle’s 25.

He reached this tally in just 142 innings, making him the fifth-fastest globally, behind Babar Azam (102), Hashim Amla (104), Virat Kohli (124), and David Warner (139). Gayle and Lara reached 19 hundreds in 189 and 243 innings respectively.

Captaincy and Wicketkeeping Triumphs

Most ODI Hundreds as a Keeper-Captain

All six of Hope’s ODI hundreds as captain have come while he was also keeping wickets, which puts him level with MS Dhoni for the most ODI centuries by a wicketkeeper-captain.

These six hundreds also make him the leading West Indies captain in ODI centuries, going past Lara’s five. A Lone Warrior in Challenging Innings No Support Beyond 30 Third Century The next-best scores for West Indies in the Napier ODI were just 22 – from Ackeem Auguste, Roston Chase and Romario Shepherd.

This is the third time Shai Hope has made an ODI hundred when no teammate has reached 30. The previous two instances came in consecutive ODIs against Bangladesh in 2018.

Only Saeed Anwar and Hashim Amla have achieved this rare feat three times. New Zealand’s Home Dominance and Opening Stand Revival 11 Consecutive Home ODI Series Wins This defeat doesn’t overshadow New Zealand’s phenomenal streak: 11 consecutive bilateral ODI series wins at home since losing to India in January 2019.

They have lost only two of their 31 matches in this period and both were dead rubbers. Only South Africa (17 series between 2002-2007) have a longer streak.

First Century Opening Stand in 73 Innings Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra’s 106-run partnership ended New Zealand’s run of 73 ODI innings without a century opening stand. New Zealand’s last such stand was also 106, between Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls in February 2020 against India.
