The McLaren MCL40 2026 F1 Car was revealed on February 9, 2026, before pre-season testing in Bahrain. It is fully redesigned with a shorter and lighter chassis, a 50 by 50 hybrid power unit, and active aerodynamics with moving front and rear wings. The car is driven by Lando Norris using the number 1 and Oscar Piastri as teammates, aiming to defend their 2025 title.

McLaren MCL40 New Aero Design and Compact Car Build

The McLaren MCL40 2026 Formula 1 car has a new aero and body design to make it faster and easier to control. Engineers made a flatter underfloor and removed the old ground effect tunnel style. The nose and crash structure at the front are also redesigned for better airflow and safety. The whole car is more compact and smaller in shape, which helps drivers turn better and handle corners more smoothly on track.

McLaren MCL40 Uses New 50 50 Hybrid Engine System

The McLaren MCL40 follows the new 2026 Formula 1 engine rules. The power unit now uses a 50 50 split between the normal petrol engine and the electrical system. That means half the power comes from the internal combustion engine and half from electric energy. This change is made to improve efficiency and reduce fuel use. Drivers must manage both engine and battery power smartly during the race.

McLaren MCL40 Active Wings Help Reduce Air Drag

The McLaren MCL40 2026 car uses active aerodynamics on both front and rear wings. This means small flaps can move while driving. When they open or adjust, air drag becomes lower, and the car can go faster on straights. It works like smart moving wings.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri Lead McLaren 2026 Car

For the 2026 Formula 1 season, McLaren kept the same drivers. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will both drive the new MCL40 car. Norris comes in as the defending world champion, and Piastri continues as his teammate. The team did not change its main leadership either. McLaren wants stability while new rules start in 2026, so keeping the same drivers helps them stay strong at the front of the grid.

McLaren MCL40A F1 Car Sold for 11.4 Million at Auction

An unraced 2026 Formula 1 car from McLaren called the MCL40A was sold at auction for 11.4 million dollars, about 9 million pounds or 9.85 million euros. The sale was handled by RM Sotheby’s in Abu Dhabi. Even though the car will not race soon, collectors paid a huge price because it is built for the new 2026 rules and uses a Mercedes powertrain with a new aero design. Delivery is planned for 2028. The buyer also gets a 2025 show car and special team access, including meetings with Zak Brown, Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri.
