In the 3rd match of IPL 2026 between RR vs CSK, the first innings turned into a completely one-sided affair in favor of the Rajasthan Royals. It was a disastrous outing for Chennai Super Kings, marked by early wickets, constant middle-order collapses, and a poor finish in the death overs that never allowed them to stay in the contest.

The breakthrough came early with the crucial wicket of Sanju Samson on the final ball of the second over, and from that moment onward, the wickets kept falling, restricting CSK to a very low and below-par total.

RR vs CSK: Powerplay Meltdown Becomes CSK’s Worst Start

In RR vs CSK, Chennai’s performance in the power play was extremely disappointing, as the team managed to score under 40 runs, reaching just 38/4. The collapse began early when Matt Short was dismissed in the 5.3rd over, putting CSK under massive pressure. Sanju Samson departed for just 6 runs, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also managed only 6, Ayush Mhatre was out for a golden duck (0), and Matt Short could score only 2 runs. The powerplay turned into a complete nightmare for CSK, with the hopes from their top order fading very quickly.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals’ bowling attack dominated the phase brilliantly, with fast bowler Nandre Burger picking up two wickets in the powerplay, Jofra Archer taking one wicket, and one wicket coming through Ravindra Jadeja.

RR vs CSK: Middle Overs Domination From Royals

Chennai Super Kings’ middle overs completely derailed their innings after the powerplay collapse. Struggling at 38/4, CSK failed to rebuild as wickets kept falling, slipping to around 74/7 by the 11th over. Lack of partnerships, slow scoring, and pressure from RR bowlers prevented any recovery, leaving CSK heading toward a below-par total.

Rajasthan Royals dominated the middle overs with disciplined bowling and timely breakthroughs. Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer’s early impact was perfectly backed by tight middle-phase control, restricting CSK’s scoring rate. Regular wickets ensured RR maintained momentum, turning the match one-sided and putting themselves in a commanding position before the death overs.

RR vs CSK: Jamie Overturn’s Fightback Led to a Total of 127

Jamie Overton played a crucial knock of 43 runs off 36 balls, coming at a time when CSK needed stability the most. He walked in when the team was struggling at 57/6 and helped take the score forward to 127 with a fighting innings.

His knock included 2 fours and 2 sixes, showing resilience under pressure. Ashul Kamboj provided good support from the other end, but a moment of miscommunication between the two resulted in Overton being run out in the 19.4th over, bringing a promising innings to an unfortunate end.
