SRH vs PBKS: With 33 points in the standings, Sunrisers Hyderabad got three consecutive wins with this one against Punjab Kings this season by 33 runs, resulting in SRH taking over the number one position in the IPL 2026 points table after pulling away from the middle of the pack following back-to-back losses to other teams.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings dropped to 2nd position after being at the top for the whole season.
SRH vs PBKS: SRH’s Batting Brilliance Sets the Tone
In the opening phase of the innings, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head started out attacking from the very first delivery, immediately putting PBKS under pressure with aggressive strokes to score quickly during the powerplay period. Abhishek made 35 off 13 balls whereas Travis Head made 38 off 19 balls.
Ishan Kishan maintained the run-scoring momentum by continuing to rotate the strike and score boundaries regularly to end up with a smooth half-century. Then Heinrich Klaasen took over anchoring the innings with his composed 69 off 43 balls while hitting the ball with power.
The problems for PBKS were compounded therefore by their poor fielding, as both missed catches and other missed opportunities, enabled SRH to score 235/4.
SRH vs PBKS: PBKS Collapse Under Pressure in the Chase
Chasing 236 was always going to be tough, but PBKS really made it difficult with a shocking start. Their captain and their three best players lost in the powerplay period.
While Stoinis went out with a quick 28 to attack back, the constantly growing need for runs forced PBKS into unnecessary risks which led to more wickets being lost, and virtually eliminated their chances of building any type of partnership.
Early Collapse
- Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed cheaply.
- PBKS were reduced to 23/3 within the first four overs.
Middle-Order Effort
- Marcus Stoinis provided a brief spark with 28 off 14 balls.
However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals, increasing the required run rate beyond reach.
Cooper Connolly’s Lone Fight
Cooper Connolly made a name for himself by playing exceedingly well during this total disaster. He hit a century off just 57 balls and stood till the last ball of the innings from one end.
With PBKS down to only three wickets remaining, Connolly did everything he could to keep the PBKS team in contention for as long as possible by hitting many boundaries and punishing any bad balls bowled to him.
Unfortunately, as the other end continued to lose wickets and PBKS’s target became out of reach, this outstanding performance was not enough to win.
SRH Bowling Maintains Control
The target posted by SRH meant that they successfully executed their bowling strategy. For example, Captain Pat Cummins led the team’s bowling attack by bowling 1st over of the match and dismissing Priyansh Arya following with a great catch at deep point that Cummins took of Prabhsimran in Nitish Kumar Reddy’s over.
Later on Shreyas Iyer was also dismissed in the powerplay Eshan Malinga and Pat Cummins took his catch on mid on. In order to prevent PBKS from having any sustained momentum, the entire bowling unit made sure of their early wickets this was critical for the victory of the match.
