Hockey India has announced the Senior Women’s National Coaching Camp ahead of a packed international calendar, with the team set to begin preparations for the 2026 FIH Nations Cup and other major tournaments later this year.
The camp will be held from May 11 to May 20 and will act as a crucial build-up phase before the Indian women’s team travels to Australia for an exposure tour. The Australia tour is expected to give the squad valuable match practice before heading to Auckland for the FIH Nations Cup, scheduled from June 15 to June 21.
Nations Cup carries massive stakes for India
India sees the upcoming Nations Cup as an opportunity to qualify directly for the 2026–27 FIH Hockey Pro League, which many consider to be one of the hardest and most competitive leagues in international hockey.
Furthermore, the winner of the Pro League will automatically qualify for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
For these reasons, the next several months will have a major role in shaping India’s future Olympic goals.
Focus shifts toward the World Cup and the Asian Games
Apart from the Nations Cup, the Indian women’s hockey team also has two massive targets later this year- the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to August 30, followed by the 2026 Asian Games in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
The coaching staff is expected to use the camp to fine-tune combinations, improve overall fitness standards, and strengthen tactical structures ahead of the busy season.
Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne said the immediate focus would remain on physical conditioning and consistency.
“This will be a short camp ahead of our upcoming tour to Australia. The integral focus of the camp will be on the fitness aspects of the game and improving in those areas. We want to be consistent in this regard and take the next step as a team,” Marijne said.
