After a shaky start to their IPL 2026 campaign, Chennai Super Kings have made a strong comeback and are currently sitting fifth on the points table with 12 points, keeping their playoff hopes alive. However, injuries continue to trouble the five-time champions, and they have now suffered another major setback ahead of a crucial clash against Lucknow Super Giants.

Jamie Overton sustains a right thigh injury

Star pacer Jamie Overton has sustained a right thigh injury, with CSK confirming the development on social media. While the franchise has not officially ruled him out of the remainder of IPL 2026, Overton has returned to the UK for “further assessment and management” of the injury.

Jamie Overton has been a key player in the Chennai Super Kings lineup this season. In fact, he was also named Player of the Match in the most recent home outing against Lucknow Super Giants after delivering a brilliant spell and picking up three wickets. He has featured in a total of 10 games this season and has picked 14 wickets at an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89, while he has scored 135 runs at a strike rate of 158.13.

CSK signed Macneil Noronha as a replacement for Ramakrishna Ghosh

Despite turning their campaign around after suffering three consecutive defeats at the start of IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings have continued to struggle with injury concerns throughout the season. The five-time champions recently signed Karnataka batter Macneil Noronha as a replacement for Ramakrishna Ghosh. With no direct all-round replacement available in the squad for Jamie Overton, CSK may now be forced to reshuffle their overseas combination, which could open the door for Australian pacer Spencer Johnson.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni’s availability has become a major point, as he has yet to feature in a game this season and also did not travel to Lucknow with the rest of the CSK squad for their May 15 clash against Lucknow Super Giants.

Chennai Super Kings, who will next take on the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, will be keen to secure two points to keep their playoffs hope alive.
