On Friday, March 11, Pakistan (PK-W) and South Africa (SA-W) will face off in the ninth match of the Women’s World Cup 2022 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Pakistan, captained by Bismah Maroof, has having a difficult time at this year’s World Cup. The Women in Green are at the bottom of the points standings after losing both matches by large scores, with a catastrophic net run rate of -1.891.

Following a 107-run defeat at the hands of Mithali Raj’s India, they were defeated by Meg Lanning’s Australia by seven wickets. Pakistan huffed and puffed their way to 190 for six in 20 overs after being put in to bat first. Maroof led the way for them with an unbroken 78-run knock. She later dedicated the knock to her little daughter Fatima. Aliya Riaz scored 53 runs as well, but with a strike rate of 48.62. Alana King was the standout Australian bowler, with two wickets.

Australia then chased the goal down in 34.4 overs. Alyssa Healy seemed to be in command as she scored 72 runs off 79 balls, including seven fours. Rachael Haynes and Lanning both scored in the 30s but were unable to advance. Omaima Sohail took two wickets, but her efforts were futile. South Africa, captained by Sune Luus, on the other side, got off to a winning start. On March 5, they defeated Bangladesh’s Nigar Sultana Joty by 32 runs. South Africa’s batting department was put to the test as they scored 207 runs in 49.5 overs.
