He was the first player to use the pinch-hitting strategy in ODIs, at least a decade before Mark Greatbatch, who did so in the 1992 World Cup, and Sachin Tendulkar, who did so much later. • He was the match’s highest scorer with 38 runs off 57 balls, and his efforts were essential in India’s victory at the 1983 Cricket World Cup finals.
