The action will begin soon as the 16th season of the Indian Premier will start on the 31st of March as MS Dhoni’s CSK takes on Hardik Pandya’s GT. But amidst all the excitement over the return of the grandest T20 league, injured players have caught all the attention.

Almost every side is facing its toughest battles before the season begins, as injuries to important players have put their sides in tough positions.

Here is an injured 11 of IPL 2023:

IPL Injured 11 players list 2023

1. Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow was bought by the Punjab Kings for INR 6.75 crores. Bairstow suffered an injury playing golf in September 2022. Bairstow was ruled out of IPL after he failed to recover in time for the IPL. The PBKS will surely miss the services of Bairstow at the top of the order. PBKS has announced the Big Bash League 2022-23 player of the tournament, Matthew Short as Bairstow’s replacement.

2. Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar suffered a heel injury which puts him out of at least the first half of the IPL 2023. Patidar first came into the limelight as he scored 333 runs at a strike rate of 153 in IPL 2022. Interestingly, Patidar himself was a mid-season replacement for the injured Luvnith Sisodia in IPL 2022.

3. Shreyas Iyer

The Kolkata Knight Riders captain is set to miss out on the first half of IPL 2023. Iyer suffered a back injury which kept him out of the first test match in the Border-Gavaskar trophy, he was back for the remaining three matches but was later ruled out of the ODI series against Australia. KKR has named Nitish Rana as the stand-in captain till Iyer recovers and joins the team.

4. Rishabh Pant

Like the KKR, Delhi Capitals will miss their captain this season as well. In the case of DC, they will miss their captain for the entirety of the season as he has been ruled out of any competitive cricket due to his car accident in December 2022. DC has announced that Dawid Warner will lead the side in Pant’s absence.

5. Will Jacks

Will Jacks was bought by the RCB for INR 3.2 crores. He was one of the top purchases from RCB and was set to partner with Maxwell in the middle order. Jack’s picked an injury during the English tour of Bangladesh and thus was ruled out of the IPL. New Zealander Michael Bracewell has been named as his replacement for this season.

6. Kyle Jamieson

Chennai Super Kings bought Kyle Jamieson for INR 1 crore. Jamieson suffered a stress fracture in his back and will require surgery which puts him out of this season. CSK has named Sisanda Magala as his replacement who has been impressive with the ball in the recent past.

7. Josh Hazlewood

The Australian pacer suffered Achilles tendonitis which ruled him out of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Josh Hazlewood from RCB has not recovered from the injury in time and is expected to miss the first half of the season.

8. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah will not play in the IPL this year as he continues to miss time due to injuries. Mumbai Indians will surely miss him bowling in tandem with Jofra Archer.

9. Prasidh Krishna

Having been sidelined since August 2022 due to a spinal stress fracture, Prasidh’s stellar ODI career came to a pause. He won’t participate in cricket at least throughout the 2023 IPL. Rajasthan Royals will miss the pacer as he was their second leading wicket-taker behind the purple cap winner Yuzvendra Chahal.

10. Mukesh Choudhary

In Indian cricket, left-arm seamers are a rare commodity, but Mukesh Choudhary gave Indian fans hope in IPL 2022 when his 16 wickets for Chennai Super Kings were among the few positives for them. But a back problem required him to receive treatment at the NCA. Choudhary remains doubtful to play in this year’s IPL

11. Mohsin Khan

Mohsin Khan from Lucknow Super Giants, yet another left-arm seamer, finished the IPL 2022 as the second-most economical bowler (after Sunil Narine). He had surgery to remove blood clots from his left shoulder the same year and hasn’t participated in high-level cricket since. Mohsin has returned to the nets for batting but it is likely that bowling will take some time.
