Here are some players who played through injuries in football

Football is a tough and physical sport and often results in injuries for the players. The intensity, passion, and commitment that football offers are unmatched, therefore if you play at a high level, it’s likely that you will sustain some of the most horrifying wounds. Some of the injuries caused by the sport are not just painful; they are also tragic for the players who sustain them. Although some footballers are criticised for being “soft,” there are some who have had horrifying injuries and played on for the remainder of the game or perhaps the entire season. Here are some players who played through injuries in football.

Wilfried Bony, Swansea City

In the 2014–15 campaign, Wilfried Bony attracted a lot of attention as his outstanding play with Swansea secured him a berth in Manchester City’s lineup. However, the striker went back to Swansea in 2017–18 and tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Leicester City just minutes after entering the pitch.

The fans and the management at first didn’t understand what happened following the landing, but Bony kept playing for the remainder of the game.

The Ivorian striker’s injury was so severe that he was forced to miss the rest of the season, which wasn’t exactly good news for Swansea fans after the game. He played on despite being hurt, which contributed to the worsening of his condition.

Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal

Cesc Fabregas, one of the most significant players in Premier League history, needs no introduction at all because he debuted for The Gunners at the young age of 17.

He became one of the youngest captains in the history of the sport at the Emirates thanks to his playmaking talents as a midfielder.

The Spanish midfielder Fabregas claimed to have broken his foot at some point in the first half of the 2009–10 UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, yet the player still managed to score a penalty despite a potentially career-ending injury.

Fabregas added that he wasn’t certain whether his leg fractured in the previous game against Birmingham or this specific contest. Fabregas remained on the pitch until the second half before being replaced.

Ronaldo Nazario, Brazil

The former Ballon d’Or winner has enjoyed a successful career with clubs like Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Barcelona in addition to his national team. He has drawn some of the most illustrious parallels to football greats like Pele and Marco van Basten thanks to his performance as a world-class striker.

The World Cup winner, one of the most feared strikers of his generation, made sure to perform each and every time he stepped foot on the pitch.

A little-known detail, though, is that the Brazilian legend apparently had a “fit” soon before the 1998 World Cup final, causing foam to pour from his mouth. The doctors forbade him from participating, but he did attend the championships because his love for the game was evident in his acts.

Despite ultimately falling short, Brazil responded against the French team four years later. He wasn’t cleared to participate, as was previously reported, and as a result, this information sparked a lot of debate in the media with claims that Nike coerced the Brazilian to play. However, all of the rumours were refuted by Ronaldo and Nike.
