Mohammed Siraj, an India pacer, informed the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) about a man who wanted inside information after losing money while betting. Siraj was approached during India’s ODI series against Australia in March, and he immediately reported the incident to Anti-Corruption Unit officials on Wednesday. Since S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, and Ajit Chandila–all bowlers for the Rajasthan Royals at the time–were detained on suspicion of spot-fixing, and former CSK official Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested for betting links in May 2013, the BCCI has stepped up its anti-corruption campaign.

Players must attend an ACU session, and there are repercussions for failing to report a corrupt strategy. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan was suspended in 2019 for failing to report a corrupt strategy used during a tri-series in early 2018 and later that year during his IPL tenure.

Notably, Siraj is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). So far, he has delivered several crucial powerplay spells for his team, taking eight wickets in five matches at an average of 17.50 and an economy rate of 7.00. So far in the tournament, his best bowling figures are 3/22.

Siraj has had a fantastic year in international cricket as well. He has taken 19 wickets for India in eight One-Day Internationals this year, with an average of 13.21 and an economy rate of 4.61. His best ODI bowling figures this year are 4/32. Siraj’s outstanding performances also earned him the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers. So far this year, he has taken the most wickets in ODIs for India and among the ICC’s full-member countries.

In three Test matches this year, he has taken a wicket as well.
