Bangladesh’s preparations for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup have been marred by injuries, with yet another blow hitting the team. Speedster Ebadot Hossain has been forced to withdraw from the squad due to a knee injury, further challenging Shakib Al Hasan’s side in the regional event.
Earlier, Tamim Iqbal’s recurring back injury led to his withdrawal from the tournament, prompting Shakib Al Hasan to take over the captaincy. Now, Bangladesh faces the absence of Ebadot Hossain, who sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the ODI series against Afghanistan last month.
Tanzim Hasan has been named as Ebadot’s replacement in the squad. The decision comes after a thorough evaluation of Ebadot’s injury, as confirmed by BCB Chief Sports Physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury.
“Ebadot underwent six weeks of rehabilitation post-injury. Multiple MRIs during this period indicated persistent concerns with his ACL, necessitating further treatment. As a result, he will miss the Asia Cup,” Dr Chowdhury explained.
With the ICC World Cup scheduled for October, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is determined to explore all safe medical options to expedite Ebadot’s recovery. This includes considering consultations and treatment abroad, ensuring his fitness for the upcoming major event.
As Bangladesh faces challenges ahead of the Asia Cup, the updated squad includes Shakib Al Hasan (captain), along with players like Litton Kumer Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, and others. The team aims to overcome these setbacks and put up a strong performance in the tournament
