Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared valuable advice for India’s top-order batsmen, underlining the significance of a steady start in the initial overs. During a discussion on Star Sports, Manjrekar highlighted the pivotal role of India’s top three batters – often comprising Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill. He underscored their strong Test cricket backgrounds, mentioning how the initial overs in a 50-over match differ from a T20 game.
He stated, “While the format is 50 overs and white-ball cricket, the beginning isn’t like a T20 game. These top-order players possess solid Test cricket skills, including the ability to respect the bowlers.”

Referring to Rohit Sharma’s past performance in the World Cup, Manjrekar emphasized the importance of respecting the bowlers during the first 10 overs. He recalled instances where Rohit showed restraint in the initial phase of the game, setting the foundation for his later aggressive gameplay.

Bangar also touched upon the team’s experimentation with different batting pairs during training camps. He cited instances where players like Subhman Gill and Rohit Sharma batted together, indicating the team’s flexibility in trying out multiple combinations.
