The lone goal, a deflected strike by Leon Bailey in the 74th minute, secured a historic 14th consecutive home league win for Villa, propelling them past Manchester City into third place.
Guardiola, speaking after the match at Villa Park, gave credit to the opponents, recognizing their organization, speed, and physicality. He expressed, “The better team won. Aston Villa was better than us. I must find the way to come back.”

Despite halftime adjustments, City struggled to execute their game plan. Guardiola praised Villa’s defensive prowess, acknowledging that City couldn’t find the crucial plays. The statistics reflected City’s difficulty, attempting only two shots – a record low for a Pep Guardiola team in Europe’s big-five leagues.
On Villa’s threat to City’s title hopes, Guardiola affirmed, “Definitely, because of the way they are playing. When you are there, you see the physicality, the tempo, the speed.”
Guardiola faced challenges with key players missing, including Rodrigo, Jack Grealish (suspended), and Jeremy Doku (injured). Despite Rodrigo’s absence, Guardiola emphasized finding solutions as the manager’s responsibility.
Acknowledging Villa’s ability to punish opponents, Guardiola admitted, “They played well. We have to accept it. When a team is better, we have to recognize it. It’s that.”
Looking ahead, Guardiola highlighted the need to change dynamics and bounce back against Luton on Sunday to reclaim City’s best form.
