Luis Suarez scored a late penalty to give Atletico the win.

Atletico Madrid beat AC Milan at San Siro ( once again ) courtesy of two late goals. Antoine Griezmann scored his first goal of the season in the 84th minute before a stoppage-time penalty from Luis Suarez completed the comeback. Meanwhile, AC Milan played two-thirds of the game being a man down after Frank Kessie got sent off in the 27th minute of the game.

AC Milan started strongly in the game and had several chances to open the scoring. Ante Rebic missed a glorious opportunity to open the scoring after a visionary pass from Brahim Diaz. However, Rafael Leao opened Milan’s scoring in the 20th minute. Receiving the ball from Diaz inside the penalty area the Portuguese forward with minimal backlift fired the ball into the far corner.

Meanwhile, Frank Kessie was booked for the second time in the game on the 27th minute mark for a challenge on Marcos Llorente. The Ivorian international received his first booking for fouling the same player.

Atletico Madrid’s comeback

Griezmann leveled the score for Atletico Madrid in the 84th minute. The Frenchman pounced on a Renan Lodi cross with a first-time shot at the goal and found the net. It was Griezmann’s first shot on target this season and he scored.

A minute later, Florenzi on the other end nearly gave Milan a lead for the second time in the game. The full-back’s effort went just off the post.

In the 93rd minute of the game, the referee awarded a penalty for Atletico Madrid for a handball. After a lengthy VAR check, the decision stood the same. Luis Suarez took the penalty and coolly slotted the ball through the middle. This was Atletico Madrid’s first win in this year’s Champions League campaign after drawing against Porto in their first game. Meanwhile, AC Milan has now lost two consecutive games in the group and is currently at the bottom of the group. They previously lost against Liverpool at Anfield.
