Babar Azam Salary In BBL 2025: Preparations for the next season of the Big Bash League (BBL 2025) in Australia are in full swing, and one of the greatest talking points has been the signing of Pakistan’s top-order batsman Babar Azam to the Sydney Sixers team.
Though his signing has generated a lot of buzz, what has taken many people aback is the relatively modest amount of money he is going to get paid, particularly when compared with several uncapped players from the IPL.
By the ‘pre-draft signing’ process employed within the BBL for overseas players, the Sydney Sixers have agreed to Babar Azam’s services before the player’s draft. This is Babar Azam’s first appearance in the Big Bash League, and he thus becomes one of the most prominent Pakistani players to be featured in the tournament.
Together with him, Australian legend Steve Smith will also be playing for the Sixers, which makes this a highly anticipated lineup for BBL enthusiasts.
Based on several reports, Babar Azam’s BBL 2025 salary is likely to be just short of $420,000, which translates to approximately ₹2.35 crore in Indian rupees. This puts him just below the highest pay bracket in the BBL salary model, even though he is one of the best-known T20 batters in the world.
Though this is a big sum, it’s not the highest that foreign players can get, and it indicates a minor fall from the highest value considering Babar’s present performance and not being available for Pakistan’s T20I team.
Comparing shockingly, Babar Azam’s BBL pay is lower than that of certain uncapped Indian Premier League (IPL) players. Punjab Kings, for example, signed uncapped player Priyansh Arya for ₹3.5 crore despite not yet playing for India.
This gap accentuates the gargantuan pay scale and market influence of the IPL, in contrast with other franchise leagues such as the BBL. Even with his global popularity and captaincy background, Babar’s valuation now is not on par with the pay of domestic players in India’s top league.
