- Bangladesh (638 all out) defeated Sri Lanka (Bangladesh’s highest in test cricket)
Bangladesh’s highest score came against Sri Lanka in March 2013 at Galle. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first in the first test of the two-match series. They batted extremely well, with three batsmen scoring centuries. Kumar Sangakkara (142), Lahiru Thirimanne (155*), and Dinesh Chandimal (116*) all reached the century mark. Sri Lanka proclaimed at 570/4 after 135 overs. Overcoming this score appeared to be a daunting task for Bangladesh.
However, what transpired next was astounding. Bangladesh swung the bat brilliantly despite having lost two early wickets. Their three batters each scored hundreds, including a double century. Mohammad Ashraful fell short of his double century with 190 runs, while Nasir Hossain was caught on 100. Mushfiqur Rahim led the batting with 200 runs. In response, Bangladesh scored 638 runs in 196 overs to take a 68-run lead. Sri Lanka proclaimed their second innings at 335/4, with Tillakaratne Dilshan (126) and Kumar Sangakkara scoring centuries (105). Bangladesh was 70/1 when the game was called a draw.
- Bangladesh defeated New Zealand (595/8d) in Wellington
In 2017, the 2nd highest total came against New Zealand in Wellington. It was the first match of a two-game test series. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bangladesh batted brilliantly in their first innings. Two batters hit hundreds, including a double century, and three batters hit fifties. Shakib Al Hasan scored 217 runs, while Mushfiqur Rahim managed to score 159. In 152 overs, they proclaimed their innings at 595/8.
New Zealand, on the other hand, was equally effective with the bat. They managed to score 539 runs in 148.2 overs, thanks to Tom Latham’s century (177). Bangladesh, on the other hand, completely lost the plot in the second innings and produced a dismal batting display. Despite possessing a 56-run lead, they were all out for 160 runs. The Black Caps chased down a 216-run target in 39.4 overs, thanks to a century from former captain Kane Williamson (104* off 90 balls).
- Bangladesh (560/6d) against Zimbabwe at Mirpur
Bangladesh’s third-highest score came against Zimbabe in a one-off test in Mirpur in February 2020. The toss was won by Zimbabwe, who elected to bat first. They did, however, have an ordinary batting output and were all out for 265 runs in 106.3 overs. Abu Jayed and Nayeem Hasan each had four wickets. In response, Bangladesh made a good start but were undone by a 222-run fourth-wicket partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Mominul Haque.
Mominul managed to score 132 runs, while Mushfiqur hit a century and a half. The wicket-keeper batter scored 203 runs off 318 balls, including 28 fours. Bangladesh made 560/6 and proclaimed the innings with a 295-run lead. Zimbabwe’s second innings output was even worse, as they were all out for 189 runs.
