4 Min Read

Bangladesh have confirmed a 15-man Bangladesh squad for T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka, from February 7 to March 8.

The team list includes the comeback of pace ace Taskin Ahmed, and wicketkeeper-batsman Jaker Ali has been excluded from the list. The announcement marks a major milestone for Bangladesh in its preparations for the World Championship, which kicks off next month.

Taskin Ahmed Back in T20 Setup

Taskin Ahmed, the fast bowler, is back in the T20 squad of Bangladesh after missing out on the home series vs. Ireland. Taskin has been quite active in franchise cricket, representing Sharjah Warriorz in the ILT20.

His return will certainly boost Bangladesh’s pace attack in preparation for the high-intention T20 World Cup 2026, mainly on a Sub-continental track where experienced pace bowlers always have an important role.

Leadership Group: Litton Das to Captain Bangladesh

Top-order batsman Litton Kumar Das has been made the skipper of the Bangladeshi side for the competition. Saif Hassan has been chosen as the vice-captain to give stability to the top order.

However, notable players who were left out include the wicket-keeper Jaker Ali and Mahidul Islam Ankon, who were unable to retain their positions. In-form batter Najmul Hossain Shanto is also not in the selection, which has been expected.

Off-Field Concerns Ahead of the Tournament

Mustafizur Rahman’s exclusion from Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL squad has relegated preparations for the T20 World Cup in 2026 to the background. The controversy also led the Bangladesh Cricket Board to convene an emergency meeting and ask for an explanation both from the ICC and the BCCI.

The BCB is likely to write formally to the ICC regarding security arrangements for players, fans, media, and sponsors in the World Cup in India. Moreover, the board intends to demand an official explanation from the BCCI over the exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL.

Bangladesh Cricket: At an important Juncture

The development has prompted serious reactions within Bangladesh cricket, with one or two voices asking the Board to withdraw from playing their group matches in India for reasons pertaining to player safety. At the same time, Bangladesh are keeping their sights on proper action on the field as the side gears up to create a great impression in the T20 World Cup 2026.

After all, a rejuvenated Bangladesh squad and key lieutenants returning to the fold in the form of Taskin Ahmed amongst others will be able to help this team perform better on the world stage.
