Bangladesh Test Cricket Records and Statistics: Team Records for First Test Series Win

In this article we will look at the first series win of Bangladesh cricket team against various leading cricketing teams in the Test format.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board manages the men’s national cricket team, affectionately known as The Tigers (BCB). It is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), with Test, ODI, and T20I status. It got to play its first Test match against India in November 2000, losing by 9 wickets in Dhaka to become the tenth Test-playing nation. Bangladesh joined the ICC as an associate member in 1977 and has won six ICC Trophies, the premier ODI competition for non-Test playing nations. 

Bangladesh had attempted to play 136 Tests as of December 25, 2022, winning 16. Its first win came against Zimbabwe, followed by two against the West Indies. Results have improved primarily at home, with draws against Pakistan, India, and South Africa, as well as victories over England, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Australia. They managed to win their 100th Test by four wickets while they toured Sri Lanka in March 2017.

  • Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe, 2005

In January 2005, the Zimbabwe cricket team travelled to Bangladesh to perform two Test matches and five One Day Internationals. Bangladesh won the test series 1-0, with one match being tied. Bangladesh managed to win both a Test match and a Test series for the very first time. They also have a 3-2 lead in the One-Day International series. Shakib Al Hasan was awarded with the Player of the series title. Raqibul Hasan managed to score the highest runs (94*) against Zimbabwe in the series and made a significant contribution in the 2-1 clinch of Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in the 3-match series. 

  • Bangladesh vs Afghanistan, 2018

In November and December 2018, the West Indies cricket team visited Bangladesh to perform two Tests, three One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 3 Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The West Indies’ first comprehensive tour of Bangladesh since December 2012 took place. The schedule was announced in July 2018, with the very first ODI match set for the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. It hosted its first ODI match during the third ODI. 

Bangladesh managed to win the very first Test by 64 runs, their first triumph at home against the West Indies. Bangladesh triumphed in the second Test by an innings and 184 runs, their largest margin of victory in Tests, to win the series 2-0. This was Bangladesh’s 1st series victory over the West Indies. Bangladesh’s pace bowlers took all 40 wickets, making them the first team to do so in a two-match Test series.  Bangladesh managed to win the one-day international series 2-1. The West Indies won the Twenty20 International series 2-1.
