Bayern Munich got two goals scrapped off in the first half as the first 70 minutes resulted in no goal. However, the German champions were as dominant as ever in the first half, hitting the post multiple times.

Lewandowski’s goal was chalked off in the first half. The Pole used his arm below the shoulder to direct the ball into the net. Meanwhile, Muller’s 51st-minute goal was chalked off as Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane were offside during the build-up to the goal.

However, Benfica themselves were not letting the game slide over to Bayern as they created some great chances too. The Portuguese champions made Manuel Neuer work throughout the match. The German shot-stopper was up to the plate as he made crucial saves when the game was still on the level.

Bayern Munich turns on the switch

Subsequently, Bayern switched two gears late in the game as they had a stunning 14 minute period. Bayern scored all their goals in that period similar to their match against Bayer Leverkusen on the weekend. The German champions Obliterated Bayer in a period of 10 minutes where they went from 1-0 to 5-0 in the first half.

Leroy Sane opened the scoring in the 70th minute with a stunning free-kick to the bottom left-hand side of the Benfica keeper.

Serge Gnabry forced Everton Soares into conceding an own goal with a vicious cross, helping Bayern to a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute.

Lewandowski made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute with a simple tap-in. Leroy Sane was in the thick of it once again. The German winger picked the ball from Serge Gnabry’s drive into the box. He then turned in a Bergkamp-ish way and played Lewandowski in the far post. The Polish striker did not have much to do other than tap the ball in.

Leroy Sane made it 4-0 two minutes later. The German scored with a simple finish after another good cross from the right-hand side.

The win puts Bayern Munich in the pole position of the group. They have taken nine points out of the available nine. Meanwhile, Benfica is placed in second place with 4 points, followed by Barcelona with 3 points and Dynamo Kyiv with 1 point.

Barcelona will be helped by Benfica’s defeat to Bayern after they themselves won against Dynamo Kyiv early in the night. Benfica will take Bayern again next matchday before going to Barcelona for their return fixture. Benfica beat Barcelona in their first match 3-0 at Portugal.
