The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah congratulated star batsman Virat Kohli on reaching 15 years of international cricket.

Just a few months after helping the team win the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Malaysia, Kohli, at 19 years and 287 days old, made his international debut against Sri Lanka in an ODI match in Dambulla on August 18, 2008. Since then, Kohli has consistently scored runs for India in all formats, making him the model of consistency.

“Congratulations to the incredible @imVkohli on 15 years of unwavering commitment to international cricket! Your passion, perseverance, and remarkable achievements have inspired millions. Wishing you continued success and many more milestones ahead!” wrote the BCCI secretary on the X platform, formerly called Twitter.

In an Instagram post, Kohli thanked his followers for their support as he celebrated his 15th year playing for their country by sharing a photo of his game-winning innings against Pakistan at the Men’s T20 World Cup in Melbourne last year. He wrote, “Forever grateful.”

As of right now, Kohli has made 501 appearances in international cricket and scored 25,582 runs, average 53.63 with 76 hundreds and 131 fifty-pluses. The recently finished five-match T20I series between India and the West Indies did not include Kohli, 34, and neither will the following three T20Is against Ireland, which begin on Friday.

The 50-over Asia Cup 2023, which will be held by both Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17, will mark Kohli’s comeback to action for India. On September 2, India will play Pakistan in the group stage. On September 4, India will play Nepal, and the Super Four stage and final are both set to take place in Colombo.
