BCCI Hikes Sponsorship Rates for Team India Jerseys: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raised the sponsorship rates for the Indian cricket team jerseys, making it more expensive for brands to associate with Team India. The move comes right after Dream11 stepped away as sponsor following the government’s Online Gaming Act 2025.
Cricket’s Big Business in India
Cricket isn’t just a sport in India, it’s a massive industry. It generates huge revenue for the government and is managed by the BCCI, the wealthiest cricket board in the world. The board also oversees the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is the biggest franchise cricket tournament globally. Beyond that, Indian team owners now hold franchises in several international leagues, showing just how far the influence of Indian cricket has spread.
With Dream11’s exit, the BCCI has been quick to move forward, offering new sponsorship opportunities that are now priced higher than before.
Sponsorship Costs Go Up
According to PTI, sponsoring the Indian cricket team has become costlier with the BCCI setting new rates. The board has increased the sponsorship fee to INR 3.5 crore per match for bilateral series and INR 1.5 crore per game for multilateral events.
Industry sources told PTI that these numbers are slightly higher than the earlier rates of INR 3.17 crore for bilateral matches and INR 1.12 crore for multilateral games.
As per Cricbuzz, these updated rates will be applicable to tournaments organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
Dream11’s Exit After New Gaming Law
The shift in sponsorship comes after Dream11 exited due to the government’s Online Gaming Act 2025. Following the new law, the BCCI reportedly ended its contract with Dream11, which had been serving as the team’s lead sponsor.
The new regulations prohibit companies involved in real money gaming and cryptocurrency from entering into such sponsorship agreements.
Dream11 itself recently shut down its real money games after the law came into effect. The ‘Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025’ clearly states that “no person shall offer any, aid, abet, induce, indulge, engage in offering online money gaming services nor shall involve in any advertisement which directly or indirectly promotes any person to play any online money game.”
Fresh Deals Expected After Asia Cup 2025
On Tuesday, the BCCI invited bids for Team India’s title sponsorship rights following Dream11’s exit. With the increased rates, the board is expected to earn more than INR 400 crore from the new deal. However, the final number will only be known after the bidding process concludes.
The new sponsorship deal is likely to take effect after India wraps up its Asia Cup campaign. The tournament will be held in the UAE from September 9 to September 28, with September 16 set as the deadline for submitting bids.
