The veteran batsman who has been in the talks because of the poor performance in the South Africa tour alongside Ajinkya Rahane has made to the Saurashtra’s Ranji 21-player squad, announced by the Saurashtra Cricket Association because of the requirement of more runs and seeing the larger picture for the team. Saurashtra plays their league matches at Ahmedabad, where they are positioned in Elite Group D. Saurashtra is grouped alongside domestic powers Mumbai, Odisha, and Goa, all of which have won the Ranji Trophy 41 times.
The selectors have picked seasoned campaigner and prolific left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat as captain, as predicted. The squad is now training at the SCA Stadium in this city and will arrive in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening. Pacer Chetan Sakariya, who built a reputation for himself in the Indian Premier League, has also been picked to the team. Sheldon Jackson, another experienced campaigner, has joined regulars Arpit Vasavada, Kamlesh Makwana, Chirag Jani, Prerak Mankad, youthful stumper Harvik Desai, and vital spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja in the team. Last year Ranji trophy was not held and this time it was about to start on 13th January but got postponed because of the likely chances of COVID 19. However, it will start on Thursday and will extend up to the 15th of March and will be followed by a break between May 30 to June 26 because of the Indian Premier League.
