Dabang Delhi vs Patna Pirates: The Patna Pirates gave a dominating performance as they defeated Dabang Delhi K.C. by a whopping 61-26 at the Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday.
With this 35-point victory, the Pirates not only achieved the season’s biggest win but also enhanced their prospects of reaching the playoffs in PKL 12. The Pirates now have their destiny in their hands, with one remaining match against the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the league stage.
Ayan’s Dominance in Dabang Delhi vs Patna Pirates
Ayan, an important factor in the team’s success, led the Patna Pirates to a Super 10 raid performance. There is no doubt that his continual raids were the key factor in making Dabang Delhi uncomfortable – the Delhi side just could not deal with the fearless intent of the Pirates players during much of the match.
Early Exchanges and Tight First Half
The game began and Ayan’s successful raid gave the Patna Pirates a quick lead of 1-0. No sooner had the Pirates scored than Dabang Delhi returned the favor, Akshit earning a point for Delhi, leveling the score at 1-1. The first few minutes of the game ended up being a back-and-forth battle, before the Pirates took a commanding 4-1 lead after a series of successful raids and key defensive tackles.
Although Dabang Delhi showed some staunch defensive efforts, and closed it to 5-4, the Pirates maintained their advantage. A competitive exchange of points between both teams characterized the early part of the half, which was tied at 7-7 following the Tactical Time Out.
Pirates Step Up After Break, Create Gap
After the Strategic Time Out, the Patna Pirates played with renewed energy. They earned points back-to-back, starting with a powerful raid from Ayan, and quickly added a second point as Akshit made a mistake. They quickly extended their lead to 13-8, stressing the Dabang Delhi team even more.
However, Delhi would not back down, as Akshit scored two crucial points and made the score 12-15. But Ayan responded again for the Pirates and maintained their lead by successfully raiding again. The Pirates then delivered a blow with an ALL OUT, making the score Pirates 19- Dabang Delhi 13.
At halftime, the Patna Pirates had established a 10-point gap at 28-18 due to Ayan’s excellent play and their overall defense.
Pirates Dominate Second Half
The second half started with no indication that Patna Pirates were going to slow down. Navdeep delivered the first tackle of the half to earn the Pirates a point, and Ayan maintained his good touch, chalking up another raid to extend the lead to 12 points. The Pirates inflicted a second ALL OUT against Dabang Delhi to take their lead to 28-14.
Throughout the match, the Patna Pirates continued to pressure their opponents time and time again. Another ALL OUT followed a five-point run from Ayan, making the score 45-14 giving the Pirates the commanding lead of 31 points. The pressure continued with Milan Dahiya and Ankit Kumar both contributing successful raids that stretched the Jets’ lead past 50 points.
Despite of a great effort from Dabang Delhi, which included an Super Raid by Akshit and some crucial tackles, they could not bridge the huge gap. The Patna Pirates continued to dominate, with Navdeep achieving his High Five and Ankit Kumar achieving his own Super 10. The Pirates’ defensive solidity, along with their offense, meant that the Warriors never had a chance to try and come back.
In the last few minutes of the match, Patna Pirates executed a fourth ALL OUT to seal the match at a dominant 61-26 scoreline.
Patna Pirates Keep Playoff Dreams Alive
With this tremendous victory, the Patna Pirates look set for the playoff race. The need to maintain their current performance levels in their last clash against the Jaipur Pink Panthers if they want to qualify for their knockout rounds of PKL 12.
