Dani Olmo, Barcelona’s latest entrant is yet to make his debut for the club despite being officially signed on August 12. The club has already played two matches in this season of La Liga, but Olmo was missing from action.
The reason why Olmo hasn’t been featured in La Liga is because the Spanish midfielder’s registration remains pending due to Barcelona’s ongoing financial woes, which have been hampering the club’s progress. The latest example was the exit of Ilkay Gundogan from the club back to Manchester City. The challenges in his registration has prevented Olmo from participating in the team’s first two matches of the new season.
Barcelona Manager Hansi Flick has said that he has no control over Olmo’s registration issues as the club might not be able to have their new signing available to face Rayo Vallecano in their third match of the league this season.
“It will be great to have him in the team against Rayo, but we will see what happens. This is a thing the player or the coach cannot control. We both know, we also spoke about the situation, we know it’s a little bit difficult here in Barcelona”, Flick, the new Barcelona coach said.
The Spanish club are in excess of their spending limit. There is a cap which all Spanish clubs have to adhere to and is roughly determined by the difference between a club’s revenue minus non-sporting outgoings and debt repayments . Barcelona will have to reduce the wage bill and/or increase the revenue to register new additions.

Olmo arrived at Camp Nou at a staggering €55 million ($61m) from German club RB Leipzig, in one of the hottest transfers this season. He was a member of the Spain team that won the Euro Championship 2024 and finished as the tournament’s joint-top scorer. Not having him on the side is what the club might not have expected.
The Spanish club is now actively looking to sell additional players to the necessary financial room to make Olmo available for matches. Some of the key players who might feature in the line of fire include Clement Lenglet, Mikayil Faye, and Vitor Roque.
