Daniil Medvedev wins in straight sets at US Open 2021 Men’s Singles Final, putting an end to Djokovic’s bid for Calendar Year Grand Slam

The 25-year-old Russian Daniil Medvedev bagged his 1st-ever Grand Slam title as Novak Djokovic’s quest for 21 Grand Slam continues.

The audiences may have hoped to witness the Tennis history be rewritten, as many watched the 2021 US Open Men’s Singles Final despite the time difference being a barrier. But Daniil Medvedev clinched victory against the Serbian Novak Djokovic and showed the world a great performance.

Daniil Medvedev bagged his first-ever Grand Slam title as he won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 against 20 Grand Slam Winner Novak Djokovic at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. The clash between the World No. 1 and World No. 2 lasted for about 2 hours & 15 minutes on Sunday.

The World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev dominated throughout the whole match. However, for the 2019 US Open Runner-up Medvedev, this was his 3rd Grand Slam Final, reaching his second of 2021 as he had earlier lost in the Australian Open final to Djokovic in February.

Daniil Medvedev en route to the Men’s Singles Final of the 2021 US Open had only dropped a set once. Meanwhile, for the 34-year-old from Serbia, this was his 5th consecutive time to lose an opening set.

As a result, Djokovic’s bid to win all major tournaments in the same season came crashing down. And the record of the most Men’s Singles titles remains tied at 20 with his rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Rod Laver still is the last man to win all four Grand Slams in a single season in 1969.
