He was born on August 27, 1908, in Cootamundra, New South Wales, Australia. Don Bradman began his cricket journey in Australia at a young age. Bradman scored 1,690 runs in first-class cricket by the 1928-29 season, which included seven centuries, setting him apart from his contemporaries. This dedication is what earned him a place in the Australian national team. He was counted as the best cricketer in the world during the 1930s and 40’s.
Record-breaking performance in cricket
From 1928-1948, Bradman played a total of 52 Test Matches in which he represented Australia and made a record when he scored a total of 6,996 runs in those matches, surpassing 5000 runs with an average of 99.94 runs. The only active cricketer who has come close to this record is Steve Smith, was has made 3434 runs.
Throughout his career, he made 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries and set numerous batting records, becoming a legend in cricket. His highest individual score was when he made 334 runs in a single innings in 1930 against England. He was known for his fast scoring rate and skill that made it very difficult to get him out.
Impact on Australian Cricket and Legacy
During the time period when Bradman was the captain of the Australian Cricket team, his team was referred to as “The Invincibles” since they went undefeated, especially during the 1948 tour.
Bradman also mentored young cricketers and, in this manner, contributed to the development of Australian Cricket. His Legacy includes his unique batting style, which included a combination of fast footwork, precision, and anticipation, which totally changed how batting was played in cricket.
