This state-of-the-art facility, with a capacity of 34,000 passionate fans, marks a significant milestone for cricket’s growth in the United States

The stage is set for cricket’s grand spectacle in the Americas! With the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 just around the corner, the newly built Eisenhower Cricket Stadium in the USA stands proudly, ready to host its first-ever major tournament. This state-of-the-art facility, with a capacity of 34,000 passionate fans, marks a significant milestone for cricket’s growth in the United States.

A Trio of Venues: Eisenhower Joins the Fray

The Eisenhower Stadium joins two other American venues, Dallas and Texas, in hosting matches for the T20 World Cup. Notably, this magnificent stadium will be the center stage for the highly anticipated clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. While Dallas and Texas will each host four matches, all eyes will be on Eisenhower Stadium for this marquee encounter. To further fuel the excitement, the stadium will witness a warm-up game between India and Bangladesh before officially kicking off its World Cup campaign on June 3rd.

From Open Ground to World Stage: An Ambitious Project Takes Flight

The Eisenhower Stadium is a testament to the ICC’s commitment to fostering cricket in the USA. Construction began just five months ago, making it one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by the governing body. A major hurdle involved transporting the drop-in pitches – specially prepared surfaces that can be swapped out – across the land from Florida to New York for installation in both the main playing area and the practice arena.

Precision and Expertise: Crafting the Perfect Pitch

Ten drop-in pitches have been meticulously installed in the main square, while six more reside in the practice areas. This crucial task was entrusted to Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions, led by the highly regarded Damian Hough. Meanwhile, the outfield – the grassy playing surface – was prepared by landTek Group, a US-based leader in turf management. This company boasts a proven track record of designing playing surfaces for other popular sports like baseball and soccer.

Testing the Waters: Community Cricket Takes Center Stage

Before the World Cup’s main event unfolds, the Eisenhower Stadium will undergo a crucial trial run. In the last two weeks of May, the venue will host “community cricket events.” These matches serve a dual purpose: allowing local cricket enthusiasts to experience the stadium’s atmosphere and providing valuable data for the organizers. This testing phase will encompass operational demands, resource management, and a comprehensive infrastructure evaluation. As Chris Tetley, ICC’s head of events, aptly stated during a recent media interaction, “There will be proper cricket played there before the first match of the event.”
